Because of it, she fails her Certificate of Secondary Education-exams, but her parents think it isn’t that bad because it’s the fault of the pregnancy. Later on in the story she becomes pregnant. She met Sam at a party, which was organzied by her mother, for the first time. Her boyfriend before Sam was Jason Gerson. In her free time she plays piano and spends much time with Sam. So Alicia’s future and education means more to her parents than it does to her. And she also doesn’t think her education is so important for her future. But Alicia wants to be a model, not like her parents want her to be. She also has a good chance for a good education because her father is a highly educated college professor. Her parents really want her to be highly educated. She also has an older Brother and his name is Rich Burns. She lives with her parents Andrea and Robert Burns in London. So her full name is Alicia Burns and she’s 16. In the book isn’t much background information about Alicia but some basic facts are given.
He knows, when he does good or not so good things. In total, Sam is a nice boy, who thinks a lot about his life, future (he has visions) and his past. But later, when there is no doubt that they will get a baby, he is willing to take all the duties a father has. When there is the possibility, that she’s pregnant, Sam is a coward and runs away to Hastings.He’s not brave enough though. Sam loves her and she’s the first girl he sleeps with.
His mother got pregnant when she was 16 and his father also didn’t reach something in life.So his goal is to do it in an different way.īut then he meets Alicia and loads of things in his life change. He wants to do something with his life and be the first one in his family, who is well educated and doesn’t “fail at the first step”. Sam hasn’t really got any plans for the future, but he wants to study art&design at college. He just has two guys, Rabbit and Rubbish, who he knows from skating. When Sam has any problems or needs advice he asks the poster what to do and Tony Hawk answers with quotations from his autobiography, which Sam knows by heart. He has a full-sized poster of him in his room, pinned up on the wall. It’s not hard to guess though, that his idol is the professional skater Tony Hawk. The most important thing for him is skating and in his spare time he learns new tricks.
His favourite subject in school is art&design and he hates maths. He is 15, later 16 years old and lives with his mother Anne Jones in an appartement in London. Sam Jones is the main character and the narrator of the book.
